5 one-minute rounds. Hit 40 WPM with 90% accuracy in each and walk away with a verified typing certificate for your CV and LinkedIn, in about 7 minutes.

  • 5×60s rounds
  • 40+ WPM each
  • 2 redos
  • Free certificate

How the exam works

  1. 1

    Type five rounds

Each round is one minute of new words, chosen by our server. A 3-2-1 countdown, then the clock starts the moment the text appears.

  2. 2

    Clear the bar

Every round needs 40 WPM and 90% accuracy. Fall short in one? Redo up to 2 rounds; the redo’s score replaces it.

  3. 3

    Claim your level

Your certificate shows your average speed and accuracy and the level they reach, with a credential ID anyone can check.

The levels

LevelAverage speedWhat it says about you
Average40–54 WPMSolid everyday speed: enough for most office, support and admin roles.
Fast55–69 WPMFaster than most people. The range many data-entry and typing roles ask for.
Very fast70–89 WPMProfessional touch typing: transcription, live chat and high-volume support.
Elite90–119 WPMRare speed that comes from years of touch typing and deliberate practice.
Exceptional120+ WPMCompetition territory. Only a tiny share of typists ever get here.

How we keep it honest

  • Our server picks every round's words and starts the clock when it sends them, so a round can't finish faster than a minute.
  • Every keystroke is replayed on our server and the score is worked out there. Nothing the page claims about your score is trusted.
  • Pasted text, scripted or perfectly even typing, and speeds no human sustains are refused.
  • Switching tabs or windows mid-round voids that round, so keep the test in front of you.
  • It's an online test without a proctor: we can verify how the keys were typed, not who typed them.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get a typing certificate?

Take the free Certified Typist exam: 5 rounds of one minute each. Reach at least 40 words per minute with 90% accuracy in every round and you can issue your certificate straight away, with your average speed, accuracy and level and a credential ID anyone can check.

Why five rounds instead of one test?

One lucky minute isn't a skill. Five rounds, each with new text, show the speed you can hold. Your certificate states the average, so an employer sees what you really type day to day.

What if one round goes badly?

After the five rounds you can redo up to 2 of them, with new text. A redo's score replaces that round's score, so one slip doesn't cost you the certificate.

How do employers know the certificate is real?

Every certificate has a credential ID and a link to our verify page, which shows the holder's name, average speed, accuracy, level and date straight from our records. Our server issued every text, timed every round and checked every keystroke before issuing it.

Can someone cheat the exam?

We make it hard: the server picks the words, times each minute itself, and replays every keystroke, refusing pasted text, scripted or robot-even typing, superhuman speeds and rounds where you left the page. It isn't proctored, though, so we can't see who is at the keyboard; treat it like any online test.

Is the typing certificate free?

Yes. The exam and the certificate are free. Practice on the typing test is free and unlimited too.
