Frequently asked questions

What are Science of Apps certifications?

Science of Apps certifications are 622 free, test-based credentials across 18 career categories — AI and generative AI, software engineering, data analytics, digital marketing and SEO, UX/UI design, product and project management, cybersecurity and cloud, sales, HR, finance, communication and leadership, and healthcare, education, legal and ESG: the Product Design Science foundation certificate, 26 full role certifications and 535 quick skill tests of 10 to 20 minutes, from beginner to advanced. Every test is a set of original scenarios, each based on a published standard or piece of research, graded on our server; pass and you get a founder-signed certificate with a credential ID and QR code that employers can verify, emailed as a PDF and ready for LinkedIn.

What are the best free certifications in 2026?

The best free certification is the one that matches the job you want and proves applied skill. Course certificates show you finished a programme; test-based certifications show you can make the right call in real scenarios, and many people hold one of each. Science of Apps offers 622 free, test-based certifications — AI and prompt engineering, Excel, SQL, Python, SEO and AEO, UX, product, cybersecurity, HR, finance and more — each verifiable by credential ID and ready for LinkedIn.

Which certification should I take first?

Pick the category for the job you want and start with a Beginner test — AI Literacy, Excel, SQL, SEO, Business Communication and many more are beginner-friendly — then move to Intermediate and Advanced ones. In design and product, start with Product Design Science, the free 18-question foundation certificate on the laws of UX, then the role certification for your job title: UX Design for UX and UX/UI designers, UI Design for visual and interface designers, Product Design for product designers, UX Research for researchers and Product Manager for PMs. Add a specialism — Figma, mobile app design, accessibility, design systems, product analytics, prompt engineering, AI product management, ASO and more — once you hold a core one. Short on time? Start with a 10-minute skill test such as Critical Thinking or Attention to Detail.

Are free certifications respected by employers?

Employers care about what a certification proves and whether they can check it. Every Science of Apps certificate states the certification, the score and the date, and anyone can confirm it from our records by its credential ID or QR code — so it speaks for itself whatever it cost. Pair it with a portfolio that shows the same skills in real work.

How can I get a certification for free?

Search or browse by category on this page, read the skills the test covers and take it online. Every Science of Apps certification is free — no course, payment or sign-up — and passing issues a verifiable, founder-signed certificate on the spot.

Can I take these certifications from anywhere in the world?

Yes. The tests are online and in English, with no fee and no location limits, so learners and professionals take them from India, the United States, the United Kingdom, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Latin America and Asia-Pacific. Certificates carry your local issue date and can be verified from anywhere.

Do free online certifications help you get a job?

They help you stand out and pass screens, especially when you are switching careers or applying across borders: a verifiable certificate shows a recruiter, in a form they can check, that you can apply the skills a role needs. Hiring decisions still rest on your portfolio and interviews, so pair the certificate with work that shows the same skills.

How long do the tests take?

Product Design Science is untimed and takes about 12 minutes. Each role certification is a 30-minute timed test of 20 questions across four skill domains, and each quick skill test is 10, 15 or 20 questions (Beginner, Intermediate or Advanced) at a minute each. Every test draws from a bank twice its size, so a retake gives you new questions.

Are the questions copied from other tests?

No. Every question is an original scenario written by Science of Apps. Each one names the public standard, official guideline or research it is based on — such as the NIST AI Risk Management Framework, OWASP, Google Search Central, Microsoft Learn, WCAG 2.2, the Scrum Guide, SHRM or the GHG Protocol — shown under the question while you answer and linked in your review, so you can check the reasoning yourself.

How much do Science of Apps certifications cost?

Nothing. There is no fee to take a test, to receive the certificate, to have it emailed or to verify it, and no sign-up.

How are the tests graded?

On our server, not in your browser. The answers never reach the page until you submit, so a certificate can only be earned by passing. Each certificate gets a unique credential ID stored by Science of Apps.

What happens if I don't pass?

You see your score for each area and every question with the correct answer and why, with the published source behind it. You can retake after 30 minutes, and the retake draws questions you haven't seen yet.

Do the certificates expire?

No. Every certificate is dated, so it always shows when you passed. Retake a test any time for a newer date or a higher score.

Can I add the certificate to LinkedIn?

Yes. After you pass, Add to LinkedIn opens the Licenses & certifications form with the certificate name, Science of Apps as the issuer, the issue date, your credential ID and the verification link filled in. You can also download it as a PDF or PNG, and it's emailed to you as a PDF.

How can an employer verify my certificate?

Every certificate has a credential ID and a QR code. Scanning it, or entering the ID at scienceofapps.com/certification/verify/, shows the holder's name, the certification, the score and the issue date from our records.

Are these accredited qualifications?

No. They are Science of Apps' own assessments of applied skill. They aren't issued by a university or standards body, and they work best alongside a portfolio that shows the skills in real work.
