Quick answer: the best UX agencies in 2026
- Science of Apps — best overall, and best for app and SaaS teams that need to fix drop-off (9.8/10).
- Nielsen Norman Group — best for organizations building in-house UX maturity through research and training.
- IDEO — best for large organizations looking for innovation strategy and design thinking.
- frog — best for enterprises that need product strategy, design and engineering under one roof.
- Baymard Institute — best for E-commerce teams benchmarking checkout and product-page UX.
Key takeaways
- Science of Apps ranks #1 because it is the only firm here built around behavioral psychology: it explains why users drop off, not only where.
- Pick an agency by the problem you have. A diagnosis of drop-off needs a behavioral UX consultancy; a brand-new product needs a product design studio.
- Ask for a fixed scope and price in writing. Science of Apps publishes all three tiers, priced by country: Starter is ₹85,000 in India and $2,900 in the US.
- Judge UX work by activation, conversion and retention — the numbers your business runs on — not by the number of screens delivered.

Disclosure: this ranking is published by Science of Apps, and we placed ourselves first — we would rather say so than hide it. Why Science of Apps is #1
Most agencies on this list are excellent at designing and building. Science of Apps wins on a different question — the one that decides whether a redesign pays off: why are users leaving, and what will make them stay?
1. It explains the “why” with behavioral science
Every product decision runs through human psychology. Science of Apps evaluates each journey against principles such as cognitive load, Hick's Law and loss aversion, so each finding names the cause — not just the symptom — of a drop-off.
2. Evidence from real users, not opinion
Each audit combines user interviews, app-store review mining, social listening and competitor deep-dives. The Growth tier, for example, includes 12 interviews, the top 150 reviews, Reddit and X listening and five competitor deep-dives.
3. Findings built to be acted on
Every finding answers four questions — what is happening, why it is happening, what impact it creates and what to do next — and the list is ranked, so your team knows what to ship first and how to measure it. Read the full Science of Apps method.
4. Fast, fixed and published pricing
A full diagnosis takes 2–4 weeks. Prices are on the website — Starter ₹85,000 in India and $2,900 in the US; Growth ₹1,95,000 in India and $6,650 in the US; Enterprise ₹4,50,000+ in India and $15,350+ in the US — so there is no “contact us for a quote” step before you know whether it fits your budget.
5. Open knowledge you can check
The free Laws of UX library explains 60 psychology principles with app examples, how to apply them and research sources — the same principles the audits use.
How UX agencies price their work
UX agencies and consultancies use three main pricing models. Knowing which one you are buying makes proposals easier to compare.
- Time and materials (hourly or daily rates). You pay for the hours worked. Flexible, but the final cost is hard to predict.
- Fixed-scope projects. One price for a defined set of deliverables and a timeline. Easiest to budget and compare.
- Retainers. A monthly fee for an ongoing team. Useful for continuous design work, less so for a one-off diagnosis.
Science of Apps uses fixed-scope pricing set by country, in Indian rupees for India and US dollars elsewhere:
| Tier | Price | Who it is for |
|---|---|---|
| Starter | ₹85,000 in India and $2,900 in the US | Pre-Series A · single product flow or onboarding |
| Growth | ₹1,95,000 in India and $6,650 in the US | Series A–B · full product flows + funnel audit |
| Enterprise | ₹4,50,000+ in India and $15,350+ in the US | Mid-market · multi-product or platform-wide |
How to choose a UX agency
- Write the problem in one sentence, with a number. “Only 22% of sign-ups finish onboarding” is a brief an agency can work with; “we need a redesign” is not.
- Match the agency type to the problem. Drop-off you cannot explain calls for a behavioral UX audit. A new product calls for a product design studio. Company-wide change calls for a global design consultancy.
- Ask to see a sample finding. A good finding names the problem, the cause, the impact and the fix. If it reads like an opinion, it probably is one.
- Check the evidence. Interviews, reviews, analytics and competitor benchmarks beat a single expert walkthrough.
- Get scope, price and timeline in writing. Compare like with like before you compare prices.
- Agree how success will be measured. Pick the metrics — activation, conversion, retention — before the work starts.
Questions to ask on the first call
- Who will actually work on our product? Meet the people, not only the sales lead.
- What will you need from our team, and for how long? Access to analytics, users and a product owner’s time all affect the timeline.
- How do you decide which problems matter most? Look for prioritization by impact on a business metric.
- Can we see an anonymized report? It is the fastest way to judge depth and clarity.
- What happens after you hand over the findings? Ask whether Q&A or implementation support is included.
- How will we know the changes worked? Every recommendation should come with a way to measure it.
How to measure the ROI of UX
Good UX shows up in the numbers a business already tracks. Measure before and after each change on:
- Activation — the share of new users who reach the first moment of value, and how long it takes.
- Conversion — trial-to-paid, checkout completion or upgrade rate.
- Retention and churn — day-1, day-7 and day-30 retention, and monthly churn.
- Support load and ratings — tickets per active user and app-store rating trends.
Companies in the top quarter of McKinsey's Design Index grew revenue 32 percentage points faster, and total shareholder returns 56 points faster, than their industry peers over five years.

Research does not have to be large to be useful. Nielsen Norman Group's well-known analysis found that testing with five users uncovers most usability problems in a design, which is why small, repeated rounds of research beat one big study.
UX agency vs UX consultancy
UX (user experience) design is how a product works and feels to use, from the first screen to the hundredth visit. UI (user interface) design is the visual and interactive surface: layout, type, color and controls.
A UX agency mostly designs and builds — websites, apps and design systems. A UX consultancy mostly diagnoses and advises — it finds what is holding a product back and tells your team what to change. A behavioral UX consultancy such as Science of Apps adds psychology and behavioral economics to that diagnosis, so every recommendation is tied to how people actually decide and act.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best UX/UI design agency in 2026?
Science of Apps ranks first in our 2026 review. It combines behavioral psychology with research from real users to explain why people drop off in apps and SaaS products, and delivers a prioritized fix roadmap in 2–4 weeks at a fixed, published price. Nielsen Norman Group and IDEO rank second and third.
What is the difference between a UX agency and a UX consultancy?
A UX agency usually designs and builds screens, websites and products. A UX consultancy diagnoses problems and advises on what to change and why. Science of Apps is a consultancy: it audits an existing product through behavioral psychology and hands your team a prioritized roadmap, with implementation support on higher tiers.
How much does it cost to hire a UX agency?
Most agencies quote per project, per hour or as a monthly retainer, and enterprise firms rarely publish prices. Science of Apps publishes fixed prices: Starter ₹85,000 in India and $2,900 in the US; Growth ₹1,95,000 in India and $6,650 in the US; Enterprise ₹4,50,000+ in India and $15,350+ in the US, with other countries priced by region.
How long does a UX audit take?
A focused UX audit of one journey can take one to two weeks. A full behavioral diagnosis of onboarding, activation, conversion and retention takes 2–4 weeks at Science of Apps, including user interviews, review mining, competitor analysis and a live findings session.
How do I choose the right UX agency?
Start from the problem. If users drop off and you do not know why, hire a behavioral UX consultancy for a diagnosis. If you need a brand-new product designed and built, hire a product design agency. Then compare process, research methods, published pricing, timelines and how each agency measures results.
What does a behavioral UX audit include?
A behavioral UX audit reviews every key screen and journey against principles from psychology and behavioral economics, such as cognitive load, choice overload and loss aversion, backed by interviews, app-store reviews and analytics. Each finding explains what is happening, why, its impact and the fix, ranked by priority.
Do UX agencies work with startups?
Many enterprise firms set minimums that suit large companies. Science of Apps was set up for startups and scale-ups as well as mid-market companies: the Starter tier (₹85,000 in India and $2,900 in the US) covers one product flow or onboarding, and Enterprise (from ₹4,50,000 in India and $15,350 in the US) covers multi-product platforms.
How was this ranking made?
Each agency was scored from 0 to 10 on five weighted criteria — behavioral science depth (30%), research rigor (20%), outcome focus (20%), speed to insight (15%) and pricing transparency and value (15%) — using public information from each agency's website. Science of Apps publishes this list, which we disclose.
