Quick answer: What are the most useful AI skills for my job?

  1. Software engineering (20) — stack trace debugger, pull request reviewer and unit test writer.
  2. Marketing (18) — ad variant generator, SEO content brief and AI search (GEO) rewriter.
  3. Sales (16) — cold email writer, discovery call prep and objection handler.
  4. Data & analytics (14) — SQL from plain English, spreadsheet formula helper and a/B test reader.

  6. Customer support (12) — empathetic reply writer, ticket triage and macro library builder.

Key takeaways

  • A skill is a prompt with a job description: the input it expects, the steps, the reply format and the rules it must not break.
  • Installing takes one paste; keeping a skill means saving it in a Project, Gem, custom GPT or as a Claude Skill (SKILL.md).
  • Every skill tells the AI to use only your facts and flag assumptions — still check anything you publish, send or sign.

Most people use an AI assistant the way they used a search box: one question, one answer, start again tomorrow. The people getting the most out of ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini give the assistant a standing job description — what to expect, what to do, what to hand back and what never to do — and reuse it. That job description is a skill. We've written 200 of them, free, one guide per job.

What is an AI skill?

An AI skill is a reusable set of instructions that makes a general assistant behave like a specialist for one task. A prompt asks for something once; a skill defines the input, the steps, the exact reply format and the rules, so you get the same quality every time. The format follows the open Agent Skills specification 1, so each skill also works as a SKILL.md file.

How to install an AI skill in one step

  1. Copy the skill — Press Copy skill on any card to copy its full instructions.
  2. Paste it into your AI assistant — Paste it as the first message of a new chat in ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Copilot — or into a Project, Gem or custom GPT to keep it.
  3. Send your input — Send what the skill asks for (a draft, a table, a transcript). The first reply is the finished result in the skill's format.

How to get better results from any skill
  • Paste real material — a real job description, transcript or table beats a summary of it.
  • Remove what you shouldn't share — names, contact details, IDs, passwords and anything your AI policy forbids.
  • Check every fact before it leaves your desk — numbers, quotes, names, laws and code.
  • Save the skills you reuse — in a Project, Gem, custom GPT or as a Claude Skill.

Frequently asked questions

What is an AI skill?

An AI skill is a ready-made set of instructions that turns a general AI assistant such as ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini into a specialist for one job — for example writing a cold email, reviewing a pull request or checking an invoice. You paste it in once, send your input, and the assistant follows the same steps and format every time.

How do I install an AI skill in ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini?

Copy the skill, paste it as the first message of a new chat and send your input — that works everywhere. To keep a skill, paste it into a ChatGPT Project or custom GPT's instructions, a Claude Project's instructions or a Gemini Gem. In Claude you can also upload the SKILL.md file as a Claude Skill.

What is the difference between a prompt and a skill?

A prompt is a one-off request. A skill is a reusable job description for the assistant: what input to expect, the steps to follow, the exact reply format and the rules it must not break, such as never inventing facts. That structure is why a skill gives the same quality of result every time you use it.

Are these AI skills free?

Yes. All 200 skills are free to copy, use and adapt, with no sign-up. They work in the free tiers of ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Copilot, though longer inputs such as contracts or large data samples work better in paid plans with bigger context windows.

Is it safe to paste work data into these skills?

Treat any AI tool as an outside service. Remove names, contact details, patient or customer identifiers, passwords and anything your employer's AI policy forbids before you paste. Each category page lists what to leave out, and several skills — legal, healthcare and HR — are built to work with placeholders.

What is a SKILL.md file?

SKILL.md is the file format of the open Agent Skills specification: a short header with the skill's name and description, followed by its instructions. Claude Skills and a growing number of AI agents and coding tools load skills in this format. Every skill here has a SKILL.md you can download or read as plain text.
