The source is shown under each question and linked in the answer review. Science of Apps doesn't copy questions from other tests.
What does the Game Design Certification cover?
Four skill areas with five questions each, drawn from a bank of 10 per area so a retake brings new questions: Systems Design (MDA and mechanics, Core loops and motivation and Balance and economies); Levels, Pacing and Progression (Level design, Difficulty and pacing and Progression and rewards); Narrative Design and Worlds (Interactive narrative, Character and world and Environmental storytelling); Process, UX and Ethics (Prototyping and playtesting, UX and accessibility and Monetisation and ratings). Every question is an original scenario written to the 2026–2027 standard, with the published source named under it.
Who should take the Game Design Certification?

Why take the Game Design Certification in 2027?
Film, writing and design students at NYU Tisch, USC, UCLA, Columbia and RCA want craft credentials beyond software tools. Passing earns a founder-signed Science of Apps certificate with a credential ID and QR code that recruiters can verify.
What is the MDA framework?
Mechanics, Dynamics and Aesthetics: designers build mechanics (rules and systems), which produce dynamics (behaviour in play), which create aesthetics (the player's emotional experience). Players experience it in reverse.
What is a core loop?
The repeated cycle of actions at the heart of a game — for example explore, fight, loot, upgrade — that players perform again and again and that should be satisfying on its own.
Can I take the Game Design Certification from any country?
Yes. The test is online, in English and free everywhere — people take it from India, the US, the UK, Europe, Africa, Latin America and Asia-Pacific. Your certificate is dated with your own local date and can be verified from anywhere at scienceofapps.com/certification/verify/.

What happens if I don't pass?
You see your score for each area and every question with the correct answer and why, with the published source behind it. You can retake after 30 minutes, and the retake draws questions you haven't seen yet.
