Does speed reading really work?

Research reviewed by Rayner and colleagues finds that large speed gains usually come at the cost of comprehension. Reading faster with good understanding mainly comes from vocabulary, background knowledge and practice, plus skimming when full comprehension isn't needed.

What is the difference between skimming and scanning?

Skimming is reading quickly to get the gist or main ideas. Scanning is searching a text for specific information, such as a name, date or keyword.

Can I take the Speed Reading Test from any country?

What happens if I don't pass?

You see your score for each area and every question with the correct answer and why, with the published source behind it. You can retake after 30 minutes, and the retake draws questions you haven't seen yet.
